Transitioning Into Fall

I love all the seasons. I really don't have a favorite. Each one brings it's own special qualities and everything feels fresh and new. And I just love that! But I have learned that compared to most of the blog world, I need a little more time to transition from one season to another. Many of you were already in fall mode back in August. I tend to take my cues from Mother Nature. Here in Maryland, the trees are just barely beginning to change. And the weather has been rainy and humid. But last week I decided that with the first day of fall coming, it really was time to make some changes!

And the very best place to start is always with the mantel.

Along with all the traditional fall elements, I used a combination of milk glass and a bit of silver for sparkle.

The clocks are a new addition. Karla bought a whole box full at an auction and I picked a few favorites at our tag sale.

We grow pumpkins and gourds in our garden, but they did not do very well this year, so I have a mix of real and faux.

I picked up the Maple St. sign at Lucketts in the spring. It's the name of the street where I grew up. I think it's pretty appropriate for fall, don't you?

These cool nubby gourds came from the farmer's market.

And even if you don't love to eat it, candy corn is a must!

This is the area above my desk and a fun little spot to decorate with more milk glass and fall elements.

Four thirty eight is the address of the house where my husband's grandparents lived. And it's the little house where we hold our sales. And I just love mixing typography into the mix wherever possible.

Acorns were also a bit sparse this year. Or maybe the squirrels just beat me to them!
Collecting elements from your own yard is fun and easy!

You can always count on a bowl of kisses (or two) at my house!

And this is the very last sunflower from our garden.

So there you have it, a little taste of fall at my house. I'll be fluffing and tweaking right up until the moment I decide I'm ready to break out the holiday decorations! ... I'm sure most of you will be way ahead of me on that one too! ... Happy fall everyone. And thanks so much for being here!

I love your fall decor, especially how you used corn candy and the chalk board plate with the note. Adding the vintage clocks to your fall vignette is so cute!

Your fall decorations look great. Like the Maple St. sign. I went to high school w/ Jim Valvano's kids, and he spoke at graduation the year before I graduated, so the "Never, Never Give Up" sign was a nice reminder of him. ;o)
