Classic Curvy French End Table

This curvy French end table in classic white came from a sweet customer.

Back in the spring, Mary went home with this cabinet cabinet. She was enjoying it so much, she just wanted to say thank you. See, I told you she was sweet!

The end table arrived in the back of a van (along with some other goodies) just moments before our fall sale. But sadly, as she was being loaded into the van, the marble top had fallen out. Mary was so disappointed as the table had once belonged to her grandmother.

Another issue was that the drawer bottom was all duct taped together, so that had to be replaced as well.

So here was our starting point - good bones, just in need of a little cosmetic work!

Now you know that I'm a little intimidated by the power saw (even the sound scares me), so I had a little help with this one. My husband cut a piece of MDF for the inset top and a thin piece of plywood repaced the bottom of the drawer.

I decided to keep it simple with a classic white paint - Behr's paint and primer in one in silky white mixed with the chalk paint recipe.

The hardware was already perfect, it just needed a good scrubbing.

The whole piece got a light distressing and a coat of wipe on poly.

Mary missed our Holiday Open House. I was curious to see if she'd recognize her grandmother's end table.

She looked pretty cute all decked out for the holidays!

Mary, I hope you are reading this. Thanks so much for your generosity. And just so you know, this sweet table found it's way to a happy new home!

Sharon,
I have her twin, just waiting on me to paint (mine is a tad bit different without the marble insert...just solid wood). I did just have two matching end tables that I had to replace the top inserts (lucky me...I had some extra tiles and Lowes cut them to fit)...thanks for the idea of using MDF. Think I am going to try your chalk paint recipe idea about making a plastic container...sounds good to me.

Blessings,
Linda

My grandmother had the same end tables! How funny. If it were mine, I would be so happy that the top broke. It looks 1000 times better now.

I always so when accidents happens it is an opportunity to look at it differently and I think the outcome is so much better without to marble. So how beautiful and updated it is now!

Beautiful Table--may I ask how you choose between putting wax on a piece and putting poly on it. I'd rather fire up the skill saw than wax a huge cabinet! Waxing is not my favorite.

This turned out so beautifully, Sharon. And I just want to say how impressed I am with your chalk paint recipe--I've now used it a few times, and I always have been really happy with the results. I also love that light blue cabinet earlier in the post--so pretty!

I love happy endings. So sad that the marble top broke, but sad to say, it probably was more appealing to people with the top painted. I am not surprise it sold. So cute! I love these little tables. I always snap them up if I find them.

Beautiful - all of them - and Good Time Charlie is probably right - I have a friend trying to sell the most gorgeous vintage french provincial end table with marble top - and it's been sitting in her studio for over 6 months -
